Tasting Notes

The nose is explosive with plush blackberry, cherry, and currant fruit interwoven with spicy aromas of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. The fruit concentration on the palate is robust and powerful with a silky mouthfeel, medium acid, and ultrafine tannins, the amalgam of which is given added nuance by hints of cracked black pepper, star anise, cacao, and cigar box. A few hours of air reveal some savory notes on the back end, blue floral aromas, and bracing integration of the acidity which lends added balance to the complex fruit profile. Winemaker Julien Fayard has once more created a wine that highlights the unique characteristics of a single vineyard fruit source and which displays the best qualities of this particularly warm vintage.
