Tasting Notes

Dark fruit on the nose swirls with blackberry, cherry, and cassis leading to aromas of vanilla bean, cacao, and tobacco as well as secondary notes of tanned leather, petrichor, and fresh dill. The palate gives up plush but elegant dark fruit, great acid, and minerality which evince exceptional balance, structure, and finesse. This comes as no surprise with respect to the Stelzner Vineyard site which sits inside Stags Leap, the first Napa AVA dedicated based on its unique soil composition. In this bottling winemaker Julien Fayard has taken some of the best old vines fruit available and crafted a wine that is modern, sleek, and polished in style but also looks back to the “old school” for inspiration in a skillful revelation of Napa terroir.
