2017 Sugarloaf Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes
Aromas of kirsch, blackberry, and currant burst out of the glass intertwined with spicy aromas of clove, nutmeg, and a seductive perfume of blue flowers and vanilla bean. Bright acid on the pallet yields to layers of ripe red and black fruit, spicy black pepper, dried herbs, and sweet wood notes, all held in superb balance by fresh, lively tannins. Several hours of air reveal yet more about this wine as it gains pallet weight and viscosity and begins to show earthy notes of chocolate, sous-bois, and toasted tobacco, all adding to a remarkably complex and nuanced finish. The structure and concentration of this wine indicates it will cellar gracefully for many years, but those who have tasted it know the real challenge will be not drinking it all in the short term.
